No fewer than four Tiv
women in Ananum area of Taraba State were reportedly raped by armed men
suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
Briefing journalists
yesterday in Jalingo, the president of Tiv cultural and social association,
Hon. James Nungwa, said that the Fulani militia had been on a murderous spree.
He said that on
Wednesday last week, Mrs Tersoo S. Orhiga, Aondoakula Bute and Miss Salome S.
Orhiga were butchered to death by the suspected Fulani militia.
He noted that from
August 2, 2015 till date, Fulani headsmen had killed over 10 persons at
different locations in the state.
He added that the
Fulani militia in their usual destructive tendencies had destroyed over 300
hectares of farmland and burnt down over 100 reconstructed houses of the
returnees in Donga LGA of the state.
“The same scenario
played out again in Ibi LGA of the state on Monday, the 14th September, 2015
where 10 Tiv farmers were butchered in their farms by suspected Fulani militia.
A traditional ruler, Zaki Joseph Manger-Sarkin Doya, was also killed,” he said.
According to Hon.
Nungwa, the other eight persons killed alongside with the traditional ruler
are: Joseph Agangi, Evag. Atsaba Kweghe, Sonter Sontyo, Anter Agangi, Vincent
Targba Uer, Shima Chivga, Shima Mtswe, Terwase Gbaami and Boniace Nyamgba in
Dooshima and Sarkin Kudu towns.
He called on other
ethnic groups in the state to cooperate with the security agents in restoring
peace and tranquility to enable Governor Darius Ishaku spread development
across the 16 LGAs of the state.
