APC accuses PDP of sponsoring Niger Delta Avengers

The ruling APC accused the PDP of sponsoring the new militant group the Niger Delta Avengers – According to the APC, the main goal of the Avengers is to frustrate and derail the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari – The ruling party rejected the inclusion of the Niger Delta region in the “imaginary State of Biafra” and described the idea as “dubious”

While Niger Delta Avengers continue attacking oil pipelines, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sponsoring the new militant group. Premium Times reports that the South South zone of the APC held a meeting in Benin City, Edo state, on Friday, June 3. The party condemned the renewed attacks in the Niger Delta region and said that the main goal of the Avengers was to frustrate and derail the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. “The zone is cocksure that the nefarious and ruinous activities of the ‘Avengers’ are not driven by any patriotic and altruistic impulse. “We have compelling reasons to strongly assert that these activities are
sponsored and instigated by the opposition PDP to derail and frustrate the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari because of its determination to fight against corruption, stabilise and put our country on the path of sustainable development,” the party said in a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting.
The communiqué was signed by Hilliard Eta, the APC national vice-chairman South South, and Steven Ezekwem, the zonal secretary. Rejecting the inclusion of the Niger Delta region in the “imaginary State of Biafra”, the APC described the idea as “dubious”. “Niger Delta is not, cannot and will never be part of Biafra,” it stressed. The party commended President Buhari and the federal government for the courage to commence the clean-up of Ogoniland. Meanwhile, some close allies of former president Goodluck Jonathan have been put under surveillance by the nation’s security agencies. According to a top security source, they are suspected of being behind the on-going crisis in the Niger Delta region.
